The headline would fall under the “You can’t make this stuff up” category. However, it isn’t quite what it seems.

People are actually cooking and eating TOOTHPICKS. However, it is mainly a South Korea thing where toothpicks are made using a mix of corn and potato starch. So, they are somewhat edible.

People are posting videos on TikTok of them being deep-fried in oil. They puff up and kind of look like shoestring fries, but are green in color. Some seasoning or powdered cheese is added on top before eating. People say they have a similar consistency to rice cakes.

South Korean health officials put out a statement telling people to stop saying, “This is not a product to eat. Their safety has not been verified.”

Just to be completely clear … this trend is with corn and potato starch toothpicks, NOT wood toothpicks. Kids, DO NOT EAT WOOD TOOTHPICKS, that would be completely dangerous!
