Fans are preparing for the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone to find out what happens with the departing star Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton, his family and their ranch in Montana. Meanwhile, show creator Taylor Sheridan is starting to talk about a follow-up show that might affect some of the characters from Yellowstone.

Cosmopolitan says in a recent interview Taylor spoke of the possibility that Matthew McConaughey will be joining the world of Yellowstone. Taylor shared that the two have been talking about ideas for quite some time. Taylor even stated that he felt the actor was a “natural fit.”

Taylor shared that after Matthew watched Yellowstone, “He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do’.”

Taylor did not give away too much about his ideas for the spin-off. However, he did say, “There are lots of places where a way of life that existed for 150 years is slamming against a new way of life, but the challenges are completely different. There are a lot of places you can tell this story.”

Deadline previously reported that several actors from Yellowstone were made offers to transition to the new show. That means there is the chance that Matthew’s new character could be mingling with established characters from Yellowstone.
