Singer-songwriter Nate Smith got a second chance at having a career making country music. He moved to Nashville at the age of 23. He got signed to a record deal that did not pan out.

Nate moved back to his hometown of Paradise, California in 2018. When his home burned down in the Butte County Camp Fire, he wrote a song called “One of These Days.” That song went viral online. As a result, he was encouraged to move back to Nashville, which he did. Nate explains that getting that second chance at music was amazing.

“I wasn’t necessarily planning on ever being an artist again, you know, like, because I’d moved to Nashville already and everything. And I was gonna be a nurse. That was kind of my whole thing. So I was working and I’ve been a nurse assistant for like a bunch of years and stuff. So getting the chance to, like, have a second chance at music without even asking for it was pretty amazing. You know, it’s hard to even find words to really explain how I feel and stuff, but I’m just extremely grateful that like this is what I get to do. I get to make music that helps people. It helps me. And makes a difference. And it’s super fun. It’s super fun. Like this is what I mean truly, at the core of everything. Like if I could have picked the dream job that I would have, you know, it would be this, you know? And it’s just amazing that people have gotten around me and supported me and championed the song and me as a person. It’s just, I really am lost for words about it.”

It’s a good thing he took that second chance. His debut single at country radio “Whiskey On You” has spent the last two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase Country Aircheck singles charts.
