Brett Young has Learned that Sometimes Date Nights Aren’t Enough

Now that Brett Young has been a husband for a little over four years and a father a little over three years, when someone asked him for some marriage advice, he shared something that all couples could probably benefit from.

“When you have kids, I noticed that like, you’re so exhausted at the end of the day you don’t really get in bed and download and reconnect – How are you feeling? How was your day? You’re so tired you just go to bed. So, we’ve been making it a point to ask questions about how each other is feeling, and just keeping the lines of communication open and not making the excuse that you’re tired cause children are crazy. Because they are, they’re crazy. Nothing about them makes sense at all. At the end of the day you’re like, oooof, can I just go to bed? You know. (laughs) So, we’ve been making it a point to not just set date nights, but every couple nights be like, you know what, let’s check in with each other, and let’s keep these lines of communication open, and it’s been really helpful to us.”

We’d also add in Brett’s case, it helps to have a very supportive wife who understands his career and the fact that he sometimes has to be away from home to tour, but who would probably love it if he took her with him when he heads to Hawaii early next month for four days of shows, with possibly a couple of days of kid-free time tacked on for some quality catching up … or sleep. We don’t know if that’s the plan, but we think it would be a great way to reconnect with his wife, Taylor.
