In January, 1967, Col. Roy Knight Jr. waved goodbye to his family, including his 5 year old son, at the Dallas Airport. He had received his orders and was heading to Vietnam. It was the last time his family would see him alive. Sadly, Col. Knight was shot down and killed in May of that year.
Now, 52 years later, Col. Knight is home.
His remains were discovered earlier this year and were flown to the Dallas Airport. The same Airport he flew out of on his way to Vietnam. The pilot of the plane carrying Col. Knight just so happened to be his son. The same son who, at 5 years old, waved goodbye to his Dad at the Dallas Airport 52 years ago.
I’m at the airport in Dallas, waiting for my flight home to DC from El Paso, and something incredible is happening.

Our incoming plane is carrying the remains of an American pilot shot down over Vietnam in 1967. His remains were only recently recovered and identified and brought back to the US.
