Eric Church released the music video for his brand new single “Desperate Man” and his “drug of choice” in the 70s era story is music.

Eric released the debut single and title track from his forthcoming new album last Thursday (7/12). The album will be the singer-songwriters first new album since the 2015 release of Mr. Misunderstood. Desperate Man will be Eric’s sixth studio album. The album is set for an October 5, 2018 release.

The title track debuted this week at #23 on the Billboard Country Airplay singles chart and #32 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles chart. Both charts track the airplay of country singles at country radio.

The music video is a “70s era drug movie” story. In the story Eric and some friends are doing everything they have to in order to distribute their “drug.” That drug is Eric’s new album.

We see them appear to steal the money to buy everything they need. We see them buying the raw product, vinyl pellets (seen in the photo above) and such. They then produce the product and are preparing to get it out on the streets.

This is when the “authorities” attempt to intervene. Instead of the FBI or DEA, the jackets the “authorities” are wearing feature the letters “EMI,” Eric’s record label.

In the end Eric is able to get his product out on the street. It appears he is able to get it delivered to what one can only conclude is his fan club members, the “Church Choir.”

I really love this new song from Eric, it feels like classic rock meets Motown to me. I can’t wait to hear the entire project when it is released later this year.
