Florida Georgia Line is climbing the charts with their latest single “Smooth” and the duo’s Brian Kelley says the song has a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band influence to it.

Brian recalls when he and his duo partner Tyler Hubbard wrote the song, “We wrote that late in the fall out at Tyler’s farm with Nicole Clawson and George Schmidt, one of our good buddies.”

He explains it was the first time that the just these for songwriters got together, “It was a beautiful kind of chilly day, and I remember I had told Jordan to make kind of a modern day ‘Fishin’ in the Dark’ track and he showed up with that track.”

While Jordan brought the track, it was Nicole that had the catalyst to the lyrics, “Nicole had the title for ‘Smooth,’ I remember that,” Brian shares, “I remember Tyler came in with that hook on the chorus, ‘Good Lord Almighty,’ and that kind of got us going down the chorus.”

“We just wrote real hard that day and had a lot of fun,” Brian admits.

How does Brian feel about the finished product of the song? “It’s something that it’s a little swampy, it’s a little woodsy and it’s right where we’re at,” he explains, adding, “It’s really fun to play live.”

“Smooth” is currently at #18 and climbing on both the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles charts. Watch the music video for the song by Florida Georgia Line here.
