Kyle Busch Sweeps Up NASCAR at Bristol Again [VIDEO, PHOTOS]

Kyle Busch got out the broom to sweep up the NASCAR races at Bristol Motor Speedway with his win Saturday night in the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.

Kyle won the Wednesday (8/16) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and also the Friday (8/18) XFINITY Series race. Saturday night (8/19) he started from the 18th position in the field while rookie Erik Jones started from the pole position and looked like he might be able to get his first win in NASCAR’s top division.

Kyle Busch didn’t waste much time getting to the front of the field of cars racing around the 0.533-mile track. He became one of six drivers that would lead at least one lap as he took the lead in the race for the first time on lap 115 of the 500 lap race. Erik Jones would lead the most laps in the race with 260 circuits out front, but Kyle Busch would come in second on that list with a total of 156 laps as the race leader.

The most important lap to lead is that final lap. Kyle was able to get out front for the last time on lap 445 and hold of Erik Jones and the rest of the field for the final 56 laps to capture his sixth win at the track to break a tie with his brother for most wins at the track among active drivers.

The win also matches a feat he accomplished in 2010 on winning all three NASCAR races at the same track in a single week. He was the first NASCAR driver in history to accomplish the weekend sweep of all three races in a week when he did it back then and now has achieved the accomplishment twice.

Erik Jones did finish the Bristol race in second place with Denny Hamlin crossing the finish line third. Matt Kenseth took home a fourth place finish with Kurt Busch rounding out the top five. See the complete race results for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol here.

Martin Truex Jr. remains the leader in the point standings with Kyle Busch moving back up a spot to second place. That pushes Kyle Larson back a spot to third place and Kevin Harvick again holds steady in fourth place. It’s another week of Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski swapping spots in the standings with Denny up to fifth and Brad back to sixth. There are two races left in the regular season and since Kyle Busch had already won this season, that leaves three spots on the Chase Grid filled based on points. That also means there will be at least one spot filled based on points alone at the end of the regular season.

Drivers that need a win to get in the NASCAR playoffs will get their next chance Sunday night, September 3rd during Labor Day Weekend in the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. NASCAR is taking this weekend.
