It wasn’t that long ago that if you saw an artist perform a new song during a concert you called your friends to tell them about it. The same was true if you were at a concert or event where somebody said something provocative, funny or newsworthy in any way. Only the people in attendance had the firsthand knowledge of it and everybody else had to rely on their recap of the incident.

YouTube has changed that. We are now in what I will dub the “YouTube Generation.” Smart phones are at the ready to record video of just about everything these days and people get the videos posted to YouTube in hopes of having a viral video that acquires millions of views. That gives them their 15 minutes of fame in some way.

Cassadee Pope is well aware that anything she does could find its way to the internet. “I’m pretty aware that whatever you do on stage is gonna end up on YouTube,” she shares.

That fact pushes her to not get stuck in a rut on stage. “My goal is to try and give the fans something different every night,” she explains. “I try and not say the same things every night,” Cassadee says, continuing, “I like to change it up for the different cities I’m in, mention a sports team or something that may have happened there.”

When she sees the phones up in the air, she doesn’t get nervous she gets excited, “I like seeing the phones up in the air I’m not gonna lie,” Cassadee admits, “I love the human connection at shows, but when a phone goes up and I’m playing a new song, I know that it’s gonna start circulating and that really excites me.”

That very concept has been proven in the past couple of weeks. This past Monday (5/9) Cassadee posted the picture above on Twitter along with the message, “A sneak peek at the music video for #Summer out June 3rd! Can’t wait for you all to hear it #SummerEP.”

I did some searching on YouTube and found the video below posted from her May 1st concert in Clearwater, Florida of the new song she was tweeting about.

Cassadee scored her first ever #1 single just last week when her duet with Chris YoungThink Of You” hit the top of the country singles charts.

Cassadee has been out on tour with Chris and will continue with him though the summer this year. The two will make a stop here in central Illinois at the Normal Corn Crib Friday, July 22nd. Get all the concert and ticket details here. Then, with your ticket in one hand and your smart phone in the other, be ready to capture something new from Cassadee Pope for YouTube!
