Community Makes Safe Backyard for Boy Fighting Cancer [VIDEO]

A seven-year-old boy fighting cancer needed a backyard makeover for a safe place to play and his community made it happen.

Bryan Carroll of Nova Scotia has been fighting leukemia for over a year. Due to his illness his doctors told his parents that it is not safe for Bryan to be in crowds. Because of that the young boy has been relegated to his backyard for playing.

Bryan’s dad made a comment in passing that their backyard was basically just a patch of dirt because he hasn’t had the time to try to fix it up for his son. That is where the community stepped in.

While the family was out of town around 50 volunteers got together and used money from a GoFunMe page that totaled more than $3000 and donations from local business to create a safe and fun backyard for Bryan to play in. That fundraising page has grown to over $7000 at the writing of the blog.

Local NHL hockey stars Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) even showed up for the reveal when the family returned home from their trip to see their new backyard.

What a great thing this community did for Bryan and his family!
