Blake Shelton not only the voice of the character “Earl” in The Angry Birds Movie, he also wrote and sang a song for him for the soundtrack.

The movie is an adaptation of the massively successful smartphone-tablet game Angry Birds where players sling birds at pigs to earn points. The song is called “Friends” and is an up-tempo, fun country tune.

Blake had to dig deep to create the song for his cartoon character. “I can write things about myself and my life,” he explains, adding, “But, I don’t have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs.”

The movie soundtrack will be released May 6th, a couple of weeks prior to the release of the Sony Pictures-Rovio Entertainment animated The Angry Birds Movie May 20th.
