We Have A New Stress Factor in Our Lives Called “Phone Peril”

An iPhone that has been dropped on the stairs

As if we don’t have enough stress triggers in our lives, now we have to deal with “phone Peril” being added to the list.

Smart phones were supposed to help simplify our lives and make them more enjoyable, right? According to a new poll they are adding to our anxiety with what is called “phone peril.”

According to a new poll, the average person experiences “phone peril” about 140 times in a year. That is when you panic about your phone some reason.

The top two causes of “phone panic” are dropping your phone and thinking you left it somewhere.

140 times a year averages out to about 2.7 times a week. Young people experience this stress even more. Gen Zers have 187 moments of phone peril a year, or 3.6 times a week.

The average American has had their current phone for a little more than two years. Many of us are using phones that are damaged in some way (cracked screen 24% . . . battery issues 21% . . . seems to overheat a lot 15%).

I don’t think the “phone panic” is caused by our fear of being disconnected if our phone gets broken or lost. I think it’s the fear of breaking something that costs so dang much these days!
