What Does the Hollywood Writers Strike Mean for You?

Writers Guild of America West building

You have heard by now that the Hollywood writers are on strike. The Writers Guild of America voted to strike after they couldn’t make a deal by Tuesday morning at midnight.

Streaming compensation is apparently the major issue. The WGA says the studios have, quote, “used the transition to streaming to cut writer pay and separate writing from production, worsening working conditions for series writers at all levels.”

The studios say they offered a “generous increase” in compensation, the writers obviously didn’t agree.

Here’s what the Writers Guild of America vote to go on strike means for some of your TV shows.

The network late-night shows have all gone dark . . . along with “The Daily Show” and HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” and “Real Time with Bill Maher”. However, “Gutfeld!” on Fox will NOT shut down.

If you’re a Pete Davidson fan, first of all . . . what is wrong with you? Secondly, his return to “Saturday Night Live” this coming weekend is OFF. The show won’t return until the strike is over.

The writers’ room for “Abbott Elementary” was supposed to convene yesterday . . . but that didn’t happen. This could affect how many episodes they’re able to produce for Season Three.

Writers working on Season Six of “Cobra Kai” have stopped for now. Writing on Season Three of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has also been halted.

However, all scripts for Season Two of “House of the Dragon” (the “Game of Thrones” spin-off) have been turned in. Filming has already begun, so it’s expected to continue. If re-writes are needed it is unclear as to what will happen.
