Martin Truex Jr. Finally Wins on a Short Track at Richmond [VIDEO]

NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. has accomplished many things through his career. He had NOT won on a short track in NASCAR’s top division until last Saturday’s (4/13) Toyota Owners 400.

Prior to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series racing under the lights last Saturday night at Richmond Raceway, Martin had 19 cup series wins, 186 top ten finishes, 19 poles and one NASCAR Cup Series Championship (2017). However, that short track win had eluded him year after year.

Early in the race it looked as though Martin would be a contender for the race win. He continued to look strong throughout the race as he was one of five drivers to exchange the lead eight times. Martin would finish the race with a race high 186 laps of the 400 ran as the leader. Kyle Busch showed early on that he would be somebody to beat as he scored the win in stage one of the race. Joey Logano also served notice he would be a contender as he took the win in stage two.

In the end, it was Martin Truex Jr. that took the lead of the race and held it for the final 79 laps to claim the victory. Joey Logano claimed a second place finish with Clint Bowyer in third place. Kevin Harvick finished in fourth place and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five. See the complete race results for the Toyota Owners 400 here.

Kyle Busch remains the point leader for another week in the standings. Joey Logano moves up a spot to take over second place with Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski each moving up a spot to sit in third and fourth places respectively. Race winner Martin Truex Jr. moves up to take over the fifth place in the standings. See the complete Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point standings here.

The teams and drivers get Easter weekend off this week. They will head to Talladega Superspeedway next for the Geico 500 Sunday, April 28th.
