Central Illinois is facing potentially record-breaking cold temperatures Wednesday (1/30). The deep-freeze we will experience tomorrow will be colder than many icy locations around the world.

These places bring to mind bone-chilling cold when you hear about them. However, with the Polar Vortex passing through Central Illinois they will actually be warmer than here!

Channel 2 CBS Chicago shared a long list of places around the world that will be warmer than Chicago tomorrow. With high temperatures Wednesday for Chicago predicted to be around -12 it will be similar here in central Illinois with a predicted high around 10 below zero (or colder). That is just the air temperature without the wind chill factored in.

Here are five places that will be warmer than we will be tomorrow in the Bloomington-Normal area and across central Illinois.

  • Mount Everest Base Camp: +30
    (Khumjung, Nepal)
  • Irktusk, Russia: +16
    (Siberia)
  • Fairbanks, Alaska: +13
  • The South Pole: -4
  • Barrow, Alaska: -7
    (above the Arctic Circle)

Stay safe & warm and check on friends, family and neighbors that may need assistance with these dangerous temperatures and wind chills over the next couple of days.
