This Sunday (2/5) Luke Bryan will become only the sixth country artist to sing the National Anthem at a Super Bowl.
Back in 2012 Luke sang the Star Spangled Banner before the MLB All Star Game. He was widely criticized for the performance because it appeared he wrote the lyrics to the song on his hand. Watch a video of that performance below.
Personally, I don’t think having the words was such a negative thing. I mean, I have no doubt he knows them. However, in that situation, singing THAT song live on TV for millions, it would easy to have a “brain fart” and forget the words.
With his upcoming performance of the song at Super Bowl LI, that past controversy could make Luke’s singing of the National Anthem one of the most watched of all time (no pressure Luke, LOL).
You can even place bets on his performance! You can bet on things like if he will be wearing jeans, a hat and even if Luke will forget or omit any words during his performance.
Luke’s friends and fellow country music stars Little Big Town (LBT) sang the National Anthem at the College National Championship a few weeks back. They received big approval and compliments on their rendition. How do they think their buddy Luke will do this Sunday?
LBT’s Karen Fairchild says, “So Luke’s gonna have fun,” with Kimberly Schlapman adding, “He’s gonna be great. I’m proud, I’m so proud it’s country music.”
“He’s gonna kill it and I just hope people are just kind,” Karen continued, “It’s so hard to sing the anthem, you guys sing it.” LBT’s Phillip Sweet said, “He’s [Luke Bryan] a great singer.”
“I mean, sing it and remember all the words,” Karen says with Luke’s All Star Game controversy in mind, adding, “Everybody is so critical on social media of people singing it, I’m like, ‘Well you stand here and sing it.'”
So, LBT thinks Luke will do great. I must say that I agree with them. What do you think?
