Last night (3/2) was a special Thursday night episode of The Voice Season 12. Did Blake Shelton add any new members to Team Blake?
The answer is yes. Due to President Trump’s address to congress Tuesday night (2/28) The Voice was limited to just one hour. For the avid fans of The Voice (like myself) NBC decided to give us what is typically the second hour on Tuesday nights via a special one-hour Thursday night episode.
When 23-year-old Ashley Levin, a Miami native who recently moved to Nashville, took the stage on the award winning TV singing competition, she put her own style to the song “Let Him Fly” by Patty Griffin. Her version of the song motivated Blake to hit his button with Gwen Stefani following just a split second later. Eventually Alicia Keys also pressed her button to make it a three-way battle to claim Ashley for their respective teams.
The two female coaches put a fierce battle to win the bluesy-country singer over and were aided by Adam Levine trying to convince her not to pick Blake. However, in the end Ashley made the choice to go with the artist she has been listening to her “whole life” as her coach, Blake Shelton.
The final artist of the night was one we got a sneak peek of her Blind Audition, Casi Joy. What they didn’t show us in the sneak peek was which coach she chose. In the setup to her audition performance (seen on TV, but not included in the online video) we found out that the 26-year-old Kansas City native has been living in Nashville in recent years and playing the country clubs on Music City’s famous lower Broadway area.
When Casi belts out a powerful and near perfect version of LeAnn Rimes’ song “Blue” it only took Gwen seconds to push her button. Alicia followed suit a very short time after Gwen. Blake hit his button near the end of the performance with Adam making it a four-chair Blind Audition at the last moment.
Adam verbally conceded that he realized it wasn’t likely that Casi would choose him over Blake at first and then added some very entertaining antics while the other coaches made their pitch to the aspiring singer. I will admit that the passion to have her on their teams made me think Casi would choose either Gwen or Alicia. I was apparently moved more by the two female coaches than Casi was since she ultimately picked Blake as her coach for the show.
The two new additions bring Team Blake to five artists, a tie with Team Alicia for the most artists on a team at the current time. Team Gwen and Team Adam are both at four members each. See all of the teams at the official website of The Voice here.
The video at the bottom of the page shares some outtakes from the Blind Auditions on The Voice that did not make the cut for TV, but are quite fun.
The four coaches will return Monday night, March 6th as the team building continues on season 12 of The Voice.
