Lainey Wilson has always done things on her own terms, so it’s no surprise that she accepted the “Rulebreaker” award at Billboard’s Women In Music.
As she accepted her Rulebreaker Award trophy at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music Awards ceremony this week, Lainey reflected on her outside-the-box journey to country music stardom and applauded her fellow female “rulebreakers.”
“This award right here is for all the women who do things their way,” Wilson said from the stage, in between cheers from the crowd.
Lainey is also the first country artist to ever receive the Rulebreaker award, which celebrates females who defy traditional expectations and norms in the industry, but also spread a positive message with their work, something Lainey absolutely encompasses.
