Michael Strahan’s Blue Origin Space Launch Delayed Due to High Winds

Looks like Michael Strahan is going to have to wait a few more days before taking that rocket-ship into space.

Michael was supposed to blast off today (Thursday) from West Texas with five others for the 10 minute flight, but due to high winds, Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ space travel company, bumped the launch to Saturday (good idea if you ask me.)

Better to be safe then sorry.

Michael is set to take the third crewed flight on its New Shepard spacecraft along with America’s first astronaut, Alan Shepard’s daughter, Laura Shepard Churchley, and four paying passengers: Dylan Taylor, Evan Dick, and parent child duo Lane and Cameron Bess.

Watch as Michael got ready with Astronaut training camp for what he thought was his launch this morning.

So, now we will have to wait a few more days to see the launch. Reset your calendars for Saturday, December 11th, at 8:45am CST, weather permitting.

New Shepard flights normally last 11 minutes and you will likely be able to watch the live stream online at Space.com, or at BlueOrigin.com.

Doesn’t look like Michael is too bummed, he gets to hang out for a few more days in “Astronaut Village!”

Michael says he is taking the following items with him for his 10 minutes in space.

  • 12 shell casings from the 12-gun salute performed at his father’s funeral
  • His Super Bowl ring
  • His Hall of Fame ring
  • A watch that belonged to his grandfather
  • A timepiece with a celestial face and moon-phase function.
  • A pearl necklace from his girlfriend’s late grandmother
  • His ABC and FOX employee ID cards
  • A lucky $2 bill.
