American Idol just kicked off auditions for season 20, and The Voice will be returning for its 21st season this coming Monday, 9/20, on NBC, and one guy who will probably be watching both shows when he can is Brett Young. “I love those shows,” says Brett. “I watch them all the time. Those shows make me cry more than like the best drama you could ever find on Netflix. I’ll cry more watching the contestants talk about their upbringing and how much they want it on a singing competition.”

Brett says his love for watching reality singing competitions and rooting for the contestants started with American Idol, many, many years ago when he was first trying to make a living in music. “That was one of me and my mom‘s things when I had to move back home,” Brett admits. “Starving artist, I had one of those stretches where I had to move back home and me and my mom would always watch Idol.”

Ironically, Brett was offered a fast pass straight through to the TV auditions on The Voice about a month before he was offered his record deal, but he opted to take a leap of faith and turned down The Voice to head to Nashville, and the rest is history.
