Should wedding guests have to pay if they don’t show up?
According to one Chicago couple, the answer is YES! Maybe even “Hell yes!”
Dedra and Doug Simmons have sparked online debate after they created an invoice for eight no show wedding guests that has now gone viral.
The internet is split, some are praising the “bill”, admitting they would have done the same thing, others are criticizing it in poor taste.
The newlyweds were recently married at Royalton Negril Resort and Spa, and they had to pay for each seat beforehand. While 109 people were invited, only 101 showed up.
After repeated RSVPs, those eight no shows, didn’t tell the bride and groom they wouldn’t be able to attend after all. The couple had already paid the resort roughly $120 per person for the unused seats.
“If those eight people said, ‘Doug, Dedra, we can’t make it,’ we would have totally understood it, would have been no problem,” Doug Simmons said.
The invoice, titled, “No Call, No Show Guest” explains in part, “Because you didn’t call or give us proper notice that you wouldn’t be in attendance, this amount is what you owe us for paying for your seat(s) in advance” and the amount “owed” is 4240.
The invoice has since been reposted on social media by another user who agrees with the bill and plans on using it if people decide to not show up to his upcoming wedding!
The groom said the invoice was a joke and they “never had any intentions of sending it out.”
