Last week many school districts in Illinois made the decision that kids would start the school year at home for the fall semester, and now one of those districts is putting a ban on pajamas, even for those learning from home.
District 186 in Springfield made some changes to their handbook for the upcoming school year, expecting the kids to go back to school in the classrooms. One of those updates was a new rule stating no pajamas, or pajama bottoms in school. the dress code was hoping to prevent students from literally rolling out of bed and heading to class.
But, the new rule is going to be applied for students at home this school year as well. For all students in District 186, both online, and when they go back to school in person, no pajama bottoms or slippers are being allowed, even while attending school from home.
“Hats, caps, bandanas, hoods of any type, sweatbands, sunglasses, pajama pants, slippers, or shoes with wheels attached to the bottom shall not be worn in the buildings,” the handbook states, which now includes at home learning for the fall semester as well.
The school district has also stated that kids must sit at a table for at home learning, not on their beds.
Sounds like it is going to be almost impossible to enforce this. What do you think about the new rules?
