Empire State Building Sized Asteroid Headed Towards Earth

Because 2020 couldn’t get any worse…we’ve had coronavirus, murder hornets, someone threw a pickle from a moving car at a highway worker (seriously), and now?!…a massive asteroid!

Bring it on! Apparently an Empire State Building sized asteroid is headed towards earth. And apparently it’s one of many. Sounds like something straight out of a Sci-Fi or Superhero movie. (Somebody call The Rock to come and save us all!)

So the asteroid is one of four coming on the 6th, but the one being closely watched is the largest. NASA says they have been keeping an eye on it and following it for years. It’s estimated to be anywhere between 820 to 1,870 feet and the Empire State Building is 1,453 feet tall (yes I googled it), so it could be just as big. Even if it’s not quite as big as the Empire State Building, that’s still huge! And it’s hurling through space at about 11,200mph, so it’s coming in hot!

Now the good news is, while it is headed towards Earth, the brains at NASA have done all of the calculations and spacey smart fancy pants math, and it is expected to miss us. The expectation is that the space rock will miss our planet by over 3 million miles this Saturday, but I guess in space 3 million miles isn’t as much as you would think because they say it will still come close.

I still feel like we need to call The Rock.
