Riley Green remembers what it was like to tour and play shows before he had a #1 hit with “There Was This Girl,” and his current hit, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” was climbing the charts.

“It’s pretty night and day,” says Riley. “I’d say that when I was going out and playing shows prior to my record deal and number one, I was having to win everybody over with one song at a time and try to get fans at every show and now I get to go out and, yeah, maybe there’s a lot of people that haven’t heard me play before, but they know ‘There Was This Girl.’”

Riley will open for Jason Aldean on his “We Back Tour” beginning tonight (1/30/20). He says fans who show up just for Jason and aren’t necessarily familiar with Riley’s music.

“They might listen to five songs and go, ‘That guy’s pretty good,’ or he’s this or that or he’s whatever,” Riley admits, “but when that song (‘There Was This Girl’) comes on, everybody stands up and sings it, and that’s something that’s pretty special and you can’t get that without having a lot of radio stations believe in you and play your music.”

Riley’s current top 20 hit, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” has definitely become another song that gets new fans’ attention during his live shows.
