Mother’s Day is this Sunday (5/14) and Kelsea Ballerini, Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town and Lauren Alaina talk their moms and being a mom.

Kelsea Ballerini is now an award winning singer-songwriter. She recalls that Mother’s Day is also the anniversary of her becoming a songwriter…

“So the first ever song I wrote was called ‘Oh Mama’ and I wrote it because I forgot that it was Mother’s Day the next day. I was twelve years old and I thought I was gonna get in trouble so I wrote my mom a song,” Kelsea shares, “and that ended up being what I was gonna do for the rest of my life, so thanks mama.”

Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman reveals that her dream as a child was not to be a country singer, but to be a mom…

“Being a mother is a lifelong dream for me. When I was a kid, that’s what I wanted to be is a mama. It took a long time. I wasn’t ever sure that I would be, but I am now, and it’s the greatest gift of my life,” Kimberly confesses.

She also knows better now what her own mother did for her, “As I’m a mother now, I see what my mother gave up and her sacrifices and her love and how she made us the most important thing in her life. It’s the most important job I have, and it’s the most responsibility that I have, and I try to live up to a great example that I had for my mother.”

Lauren Alaina expresses a sentiment about her mom that many of us feel toward our own mothers…

“I honestly would not be able to do it without my mom. I get overwhelmed sometimes, and if she wasn’t there to comfort me or tell me, ‘Look, just realize what you’ve got going for you,’ I’d be up the creek [without a paddle],” Lauren explains. She also feels that unconditional love that moms have for their children, “She’s got my back. My mom would walk through a fire pit for me, and I’d do the same for her.”

To my own mother and all of the moms out there, thank you for your love, sacrifice and just being mom!

Happy Mother’s Day!
