Going to the movies is a staple of American culture, but staple or not, IT IS EXPENSIVE! Think about it; you pay for the tickets, popcorn, a drink, maybe some candy and usually at the end of the night you have spent $40 – $50 easily. Then let’s say you like the movie and want to buy it on Blu Ray or DVD when it comes out to home viewing. That’s anther $20 – $30. Those prices aren’t exactly going to go down anytime soon either as movie budgets get bigger and bigger.
Because of this sales, specifically DVD sales, are falling. Movie Industry CEOs have noticed this and may have a solution…AND I LOVE IT!
According to varity.com, “Six of the seven biggest Hollywood studios are continuing to push to offer movies in the home mere weeks after their theatrical debuts.” Their story goes on to say that some CEOs are more open to more flexible prices, like around $30, while some other want to charge around $50.
On the surface, sure, $50 seems expensive, Honestly though, you were going to spend that amount anyway at the theater. Except now, you don’t have to leave your couch, deal with some punk kicking your seat or some jerk texting during the movie.
I would be totally game for this and hope it happens soon!
