We’ve heard of gold coins being dropped in Salvation Army kettles and large bills being placed in, but a Boston bell ringer shared something even more interesting. Earlier this month, an elderly widow nonchalantly dropped a diamond engagement ring and wedding band into a red Salvation Army kettle. The rings were valued at approximately $2,000, but the charity announced yesterday that it had sold them for $21,000 to a former Salvation Army volunteer.
Better yet, the rings' new owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, wants to return the rings to their original owner. It turns out that she's lost her husband and the man who bought the rings said;
‘he’d be happy that I am doing this,’
But the identity of the original donor is not yet known and a Salvation Army spokesperson said;
‘We're hoping this incredibly generous person reaches out so we can set up a very quiet meeting to return the rings’
I sure hope they find her and wouldn’t this be a great story to turn into a movie? What a great Christmas story.
