Taylor Swift’s new album ‘Red’ has reportedly gone Gold in the first day of sales reminding us it IS Taylor’s world and we just live here.
‘Red’ is the follow up album to Taylor’s 2010 ‘Speak Now’ project. Billboard reports that in the first day of sales alone ‘Red’ has sold over 500,000 copies. That brings the project up to the Gold standard in record sales in just 24 hours.
Target’s exclusive sales of the deluxe version of ‘Red’ accounts for 160,000 units of the album sold Monday (10/22). That is a record opening day for the retailer as well. The deluxe version of the project includes three addition songs and three remixes.
The pace that ‘Red’ is selling has industry insiders predicting that Taylor will reach the one million sales mark by the end of the first week of sales for the album. If the album does hit that mark, Taylor will once again make history. Her previous album ‘Speak Now’ sold 1.047 million albums in its first week of release in 2010. That is a feat only achieved a total of 17 times since the beginning of the Nielson SoundScan era which began in 1991.
Should ‘Red’ become the 18th album to hit one million in sales in the first week of release, it will put Taylor Swift on a plateau that no other female artist has ever stood on before. She would become the only female artist of any genre to have two albums hit the million sales mark in the first week, ever.
With these kind of sales fingues there is no doubt that 'Red' will push Jason Aldean's 'Night Train' out of the number one spot on the chart next week when 'Red' debuts.
Once again I will just say that this is Taylor Swift’s world and we just live in it.
