Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley team together to create the newly crowned ACM New Artist of the Year act called Florida Georgia Line. The duo’s debut single “Cruise” hit number one on the country charts last year. The follow-up song “Get Your Shine On” is also climbing the country charts. Tyler and Brian were both co-writers on the songs. However, Brian recalls that “Get Your Shine On” came to be in a much faster time than the song “Cruise.”
“That was one of my personal favorite days of writing that we’ve ever had,” says Brian. “We wrote it about a year ago right before (our publishing company’s) Christmas party. Tyler came in with that hook ‘Get Your Shine On.’ He threw that out at us and Chris Tompkins and Rodney Clawson. We were off to the races. It was just—I think we wrote it in an hour and a half.”
Apparently, just a couple of beers after the initial idea of the song was thrown out, it was done. “That came together really quick,” recalls Brian. “Every songwriter will tell you it doesn’t always happen like that. You really gotta count your lucky stars and thank the songwriting Gods when it does happen quick.”
