It's hard to know what to say in times like this. Yesterday I was complaining that the power was out in my house for 5 hours, today I am thankful that I don't live in Oklahoma.
At this time, 51 people are reported dead by the devastating killer tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma yesterday. Of the 51, at least 20 of those are children. Two elementary schools were in the path of the tornado, one was demolished with students still underneath the rubble, and seven children were found drowned in the school's pool. The official number of deaths continues to rise as first responders continue to look for survivors in schools, homes, and business. But, even that number is horrific.
There are videos all over the internet from TV helicopters to storm chasers who bravely (or insanely) captured this storm on video.
Here is a timelapse video of the tornado from TV helicopters in Oklahoma.
Here is a view from some stormchasers...
Here is a video someone captured on their cellphone...
"Bad news just keeps coming, and makes it hard to actually sit here and do this tonight, but I've got a job to do and my team is counting on me. So here I am."
And with that, Blake's Holly Tucker took the stage with a powerful rendition of the gospel song "How Great Thou Art."
Toby Keith is from Moore, Oklahoma but now lives in Norman which is a few miles away and his place was a near miss. Toby posted this on his facebook page:
"This storm has devestated the community I grew up in. I rode my bike thru those neighborhoods. I have family and friends in Moore. My heart and prayers go to those that have lost so much."
My thoughts are with everyone affected by this storm, and it is my hope that the numbers stop rising as soon as possible.
