In country music there are many accolades and awards that artists long to earn. One of the biggest honors that country music artists desire is to be invited to join the Grand Ole Opry. Last night (10/2) Darius Rucker received that invitation from fellow country star, friend and Opry member Brad Paisley.

They deceived Darius slightly by telling him they were starting a new “question and answer” segment with the audience on the Opry and that he got to be the first artist to be a part of it. Little did Darius know that Brad was in the audience and his question was to ask Darius to join the Opry.

Darius said that his friend and former touring mate Brad Paisley was the perfect person to extend the invitation to join the Opry. Darius made the move to country music a few years ago. He said that now he feels like a closer member of the country music family. “I’m like the third cousin that everybody kind of thinks is a member of the family, “ he laughs. “Now, I’m actually now the first cousin who’s like a brother to the oldest brother.”

Darius will be inducted as the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry October 16th.
