Thomas Rhett’s Dad, Rhett Akins, Named ACM Songwriter of the Decade [VIDEO]

Thomas Rhett‘s Dad, singer-songwriter Rhett Akins, has been named the first ever ACM Award for Songwriter of the Decade!

If you have followed Thomas Rhett’s career you know he is quite the singer-songwriter. If you know a little more about him you know it runs in the family.

Rhett Akins started his career as a singer-songwriter in the mid 90s. He launched his career on Decca Records. I am proud to say I was a part of that launch back then as part of the promotion team for the label. He eventually moved his focus to writing songs. He is exceptional at his craft. He has been a part of writing many songs for the biggest names in country music including writing credits on 30 #1 singles!

Just a small portion of those songs are “Dirt On My Boots” by Jon Pardi, “Boys ‘Round Here” and “Honey Bee” by Blake Shelton, “Mind Reader” and Small Town Boy” by Dustin Lynch, “Point At You” by Justin Moore and “Tonight Looks Good On You” and “When She Says Baby” by Jason Aldean.

Rhett has even been a co-writer with his son Thomas Rhett on some of his songs including “Look What God Gave Her” and “Life Changes.”

Congratulations on a well-deserved honor for Rhett Akins on receiving the first-ever ACM Songwriter of the Decade Award!

P.S. I used the term “Thomas Rhett’s Dad” because after a couple of #1 songs TR once asked, “When will people stop calling me Rhett Akins’ son?” Just a little fun with my old friend to benefit his son.
