Chase Elliott Dominates at Watkins Glen for the Win [VIDEO]

To use a metaphor related to the name of Sunday’s NASCAR race, Chase Elliott bowled a perfect game in the Go Bowling at the Glen road course race.

There was side-by-side racing at Watkins Glen International yesterday in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. However, it really wasn’t at the front of the field. There was drama during the race, but again not at the front of the field.

Kyle Busch had incidents with both William Byron and Bubba Wallace. Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Blaney also had an incident on track that led to words between them after the race. Again, that all happened behind the leader of the race.

Chase Elliott started the race in the pole position. He won stage one and stage two of the race. He led 80 of laps in the 90 lap contest. Most important of all he was able to hold off a heard charging Martin Truex Jr. to win the race for a second consecutive year.

Martin Truex Jr. finished in second place in the race for a second consecutive year as well. Denny Hamlin scored the third place finish. Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places respectively. See the complete race results for the Go Bowling at the Glen here.

Kyle Busch has moved up to take over the lead in the point standings as Joey Logano slips back to second place. The rest of the top five remains the same as Kevin Harvick (3rd place), Denny Hamlin (4th place) and Martin Truex Jr. (5th place) all hold steady for a week. The teams and drivers will have to shift gears from road racing to racing on one of the fastest tracks on the circuit this week. The NASCAR Cup Series is headed for Michigan International Speedway for the Consumers Energy 400 Sunday, August 11th.
