The World Championship–Punkin Chunkin is coming to central Illinois!

The announcement was made earlier today that the event will be leaving its home of the last 33 years in Delaware. The event will be taking place this year in Rantoul, Illinois at the former location of Chanute Air Force Base.

According to the press release at punkinchunkin.com and their Facebook page, the World Championship Punkin Chunkin has expanded with events to the size that the property owner in Delaware has decided to no longer host it.

The team captains (75% participating) voted 70% yes to 30% no to move the event to Illinois. The Village of Rantoul will now benefit from the revenue generated by the event as well as the “non-profit’s mission to conduct our annual event and give funds back to the community in the form of donations and scholarships for children.”

The World Championship Punkin Chunkin event is being planned for November 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Rantoul, Illinois.
