The Illinois State Senate is considering a bill introduced this week that would double the state gas tax.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Senator Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago) introduced Senate Bill 103 Wednesday (3/20/19). The bill proposes increasing the Illinois State gas tax from 19 cents to 38 cents a gallon.

The bill also proposes raising vehicle registration fees and driver’s license fees.

The senator says the bill would generate nearly $2 billion a year that the state can use to improve and repair roads, bridges and transit systems.

Are you OK with paying more to drive/own a vehicle in Illinois if it improves the infrastructure of roads and bridges in the state?
