The Illinois State Police are planning on cracking down on violators on the state’s highways and expressways in 2019.

WGN reports that the Illinois State Police will use “covert vehicles” to catch people that remain in the left lane for too long a period. The “Left Lane Law” in Illinois states that while driving on an interstate highway vehicles may not drive in the left lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle. That also applies to moving over for a vehicle merging onto the interstate that you would overtake if you remained in the right lane.

Use of the left lane on interstates is also required by Scott’s Law, also known as the “move over” law when approaching any emergency vehicle on the shoulder or a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing.

Illinois State Police said they will also be aggressive in 2019 in catching violators that are driving drunk, speeding, driving distracted (for example using cell phones while driving) and not wearing seatbelts.

The simple solution is to just obey the laws and you won’t have to worry about being caught by the Illinois State Police.
