90s sitcom star Alfonso Ribeiro is suing the creators of two video games for stealing “The Carlton” dance and putting it in their products.

Alfonso was a co-star on the 90s hit TV sitcom “The Fresh Prince” starring Will Smith. During the seven season of the show his character “Carlton Banks” became a part of pop culture when he did a signature dance on the show. The actor explained in 2014 on the daytime talk show The Real how the dance was created. Watch that interview here.

Here is a look at the now iconic dance, “The Carlton”…

TMZ reports that Alfonso has filed suit against Epic Games for stealing his intellectual property by including “The Carlton” in their game Fortnite (seen in video at bottom of page) and 2K Games for featuring the dance in their game NBA 2K.

Apparently Alfonso is in the process of copyrighting “The Carlton” dance. Does that mean if it is copyrighted people can’t do that dance at a wedding reception without paying the actor royalties?

Do you think it is fair for the actor to expect to be compensated by the video game companies for use of “The Carlton” dance in their products? Share your opinion with us on our Facebook page.
