Scotty McCreery took a little time to reach the career milestone, but as of this week he now has a #1 single with his latest “Five More Minutes.”

Scotty was the winner of season 10 of American Idol in 2011. Since winning the show he has put out two studio albums and a Christmas album on the Interscope Records/19/Mercury Nashville label. None of the singles released from those albums were able to climb to the pinnacle of the country radio airplay charts. Four of those singles did hit top 20 with two making it into the top 10 on the charts.

Scotty has recorded his third studio album with a new label, Triple Tigers, and it is set to be released March 16th of this year. The album is called Seasons Change.

“Five More Minutes” is the debut single from the album and according to advance releases of the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles charts, the song is the top song on both charts for this week giving Scotty his first number one of his career.

Scotty explains the story behind his now #1 song by saying, “For me it’s the early days of fishing with the boys or playing ball and really, I wrote this song two weeks after I lost my granddaddy Bill. Everybody has kind of got those folks that you wish you had five more minutes with, to spend time with, to talk to, say something to, so, that’s kind of the story behind the song.”

Congratulations to Scotty McCreery on scoring his first #1 single with “Five More Minutes.”
