What do you do when your truck has a flat tire, broken jack and you are marching band musicians? You form a “Truck Bed Band” and play some roadside music.

I was just surfing the web and ran across this fun viral video. Trace Woods is an  Instrumental Music Education student at Kansas State University. He and some of his friends were on the way to work with students at his Alma mater, Garden City Senior High in Kansas, at band camp last summer when their vehicle had a flat tire.

The guys attempted to change the tire to get to their destination. However, because the truck was on an incline, it slipped off the jack and broke it. Luckily no one was hurt, but it did leave the friends stranded and bored while waiting for help to arrive.

What do musicians do when they are bored? They play music! The friends formed a Truck Bed Band with a trumpet, trombone and two percussionists using the actual truck as an instrument. Based on pictures on Facebook Trace appears to be the one standing at the back of the cab of the truck and using the roof as a drum.

The newly formed quartet performed what Trace calls the “Wabash Cannonball, Side of the road edition.” Watch the fun viral video below from Trace’s Facebook page.

I also noticed on Trace’s Facebook page mentions of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the professional music fraternity I am an alumni member of. Therefore, I have to say, “Well Done Brother” to you Trace, if you are also a Sinfonian.

If you are pledging Trace, good luck. Show this blog to an active and perhaps they will give you a merit on my behalf.
