Joey Logano Scores Dominating Win at Michigan [VIDEO, PHOTOS]

Joey Logano started from the pole in the FireKeepers Casino 400 and scored a dominating NASCAR win at the Michigan International Speedway.

The race Sunday afternoon (6/12) in the shadow of Motor City had its share of mishaps with the lowest down force package the Sprint Cup series has used in decades. It did allow for cars to race side-by-side, but it also caused cars to get loose with another car beside them. There was a total of nine caution periods that covered 46 laps during the race.

Eight different drivers led the race and exchanged the lead a total of 14 times. However, Joey started on the pole and led a race high 138 of the 200 laps in the race. When the final restart of the race happened with just more than a handful of laps left, Joey rocketed out to the lead and was never really challenged for those final laps as he took the checkered flag to claim his first win of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Joey did win the All-Star Race, but that was only for a one million dollar paycheck, no points or entry to The Chase came with that win.

Chase Elliot continues to have an amazing rookie year as he grabbed the second place finishing position in Michigan with Kyle Larson finishing in third place. Brad Keselowski finished in fourth place with Kevin Harvick rounding out the top five. See the complete race results for the FireKeepers Casino 400 here.

The top four positions in the point standings remain stead with Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards holding 1st place through 4th place respectively. However, Joey’s win helps him jump up three spots to fifth place in the points. See the complete NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings here.

Joey becomes the 10th driver in the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup series with at least one win. That makes him the 10th driver to add his name to the Chase Grid with the phrase “all but guaranteed a spot in The Chase” behind his name. See the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase Grid here.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series gets Father’s Day Weekend off and heads to the road course of Sonoma Raceway next for the Toyota-Save Mart 350 Sunday, June 26th.
