Leonard Nimoy, ‘Mr. Spock’ of Star Trek Dies at 83 [VIDEO]

Leonard Nimoy, the legendary actor that played "Mr. Spock" on TV's "Star Trek" passed away today (2/27/15) at the age of 83.

The actor played many characters over the years on TV and in film. However, the role that made him famous and he will forever be remembered for is the first officer of the Starship Enterprise on the TV series and in the movies later made from the series.

Nimoy's character was a Vulcan (an alien humanoid species) that was dedicated to dealing with all things using logic. His character also introduced the world to the Vulcan greeting that quickly spread to become part of pop culture: "Live Long and Prosper." The act of raising your hand and spreading the two middle fingers with the greeting was one that Nimoy himself invented. He explains in the video below.

The New York Times reports that Nimoy died at his Bel Air home due to "end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease." The actor revealed last year that he was battling the disease.
