Chicago Bears Fire Marc Trestman and Phil Emery

The day after the Chicago Bears ended their season with a loss, the Bears organization is moving forward by firing Head Coach Marc Trestman and General Manager Phil Emery.

The Bears chose Trestman to be the 14th head coach for the storied football franchise in 2013. He led the team to an 8-8 season in 2013. However, the defense didn’t live up to the expectations that Bears fans want to see in their team.

This season the defense seemed to fall even further away from what the history of the Bears demand from their team. Couple that with the lack of an offense that consistently deliver and Chicago ended the year with a record of 5-11 at the bottom of the NFC North division and you had to know that fans and owners would not be happy.

General Manager Phil Emery was hired by the Bears in 2012. According to NBCsports.com, Emery is being held responsible for the hiring of Trestman as well as giving a franchise sized contract to quarterback Jay Cutler when Cutler has not yet proven that he is a franchise player.

Losing the last six games of the year did not help Trestman and Emery in the decision by the Bears to fire them both.

Now for Bears fans (like me) it is a waiting game to see who will fill the open general manager and head coach positions in Chicago and what (if any) player changes are made during the off-season.
